A Discussion open to the public posted between October 19

Sun Oct 19, 2003 - Its official. Pastor Kilpatrick has resigned.
"He said that he has to so that revival can return to Brownsville."
Not because of anything he has done but because God has told
him to minister to other ministers. Pastor Kilpatrick is not
going to be a pastor at another church. This will free him up
to travel. He has met with some to teach on revival. Pastor has
consistantly stated "Revival is over" and that he is
tired of hearing about the next wave or the next level.
On Sunday morning pastor said that his mantel has changed
and that he could't help it. That he believed that in order for
the church to go on, it needed a new pastor. He also said that
he knew two years ago that he was leaving Brownsville, and that
it had nothing to do with Lindell leaving. He said that he didn't
feel he would pastor again, but that he would be continuing his
traveling ministry.
At no time did pastor talk about his need to leave so revival
could return to Brownsville.
All pastor said is "I need to leave so that the church
can move on". Whatever you what to read into that is your
option, but the idea that God needs to remove pastor so he can
move once more at Brownsville is far from what was implied.
That statement of pastor's was made in the context of pastor
speaking about his traveling so much and that he is not here
during the week most of the time. He realizes that this is not
good for the welfare of the church. Since his mantle has changed,
he needs to let someone else throw themselves full time into
pastoring the church, so that we can move forward into whatever
God has for us.
All year pastor has talked about the need to land the ship
of revival. Last Sunday he used the illustration of the space
shuttle, and how hard is has been to land it smoothly. This is
a far cry from how can we take off again!!! Just before pastor
resigned last Sunday, Jill Austin was introduced, since she was
speaking in the Sunday night service, she said to the congregation
"THE NEXT WAVE IS COMING!" I wonder what she thought
after pastor got up and stated, he is leaving?
To once more restate, pastor in no way implied that he thought
God was going to move in any special way once he was gone, or
that he thought he was hindering God from moving by his being
here.
First official statement from Brownsville concerning the resignation
of Pastor K. Looks like the Associate pastor will take over the
position.
Pastor Kilpatrick feels called to be a father to other pastors
and needs to fill the mantle God has placed on Him. We believe
God is raising him up for this purpose and realize he needs to
be released to fulfill this call. The leaders of the church are
saddened that he will not be Senior Pastor, but at the same time,
we are excited that God is promoting him and we bless him. There
are so many hurting pastors in the country and he can be such
a help to them. Although he has resigned as Senior Pastor, he
will still be connected to Brownsville. We know God still has
His hand on Brownsville and will continue to move here.
Oct 21, 2003 PENSACOLA, FL -- Pastor John A. Kilpatrick who
has been the senior pastor at the Brownsville Assembly of God
since 1982 announced on Sunday he will step down from his position
as Senior Pastor of the church but remain in a ministerial role
within the church. A ministry spokesman for the church said on
Tuesday night that Brother Kilpatrick felt that God was leading
him in a new role to minister to the nation. The spokesman said
that it was a difficult decision for the pastor to make but the
after he met with the board of the church and explained his position
and how God had directed him, they were in full agreement with
Brother Kilpatrick.
BROTHER KILPATRICK WILL NOT LEAVE BROWNSVILLE BUT WILL STILL
PLAY A MAJOR ROLE IN REVIVAL IN PENSACOLA.
Brother Kilpatrick said that his heart is still with revival
at the Brownsville Church in Pensacola and he also made it clear
that revival will continue at Brownsville and that he was committed
to that process. John Kilpatrick will still play a major role
in revival at Pensacola and he will still be a part of the Brownsville
ministry but in a limited capacity.
We at The Remnant wish Pastor Kilpatrick the best in his new
ministry. We believe he is a man of honor and has made the right
choice in stepping down as the pastor of the church. May the
blessings of God be upon you and your family. Not by might nor
power but by my Spirit saith the Lord.
The Editor Jerrell Miller
Cathy Wood stated: Statement from Brownsville Assembly of
God Board of Directors
During the October 19, 2003 Sunday Morning Service, Pastor
John Kilpatrick rendered his resignation as Senior Pastor of
Brownsville Assembly of God Church. For the past few years Pastor
Kilpatrick has responded to God's calling for ministering to
other pastors both as a mentor and as a Shepherd as well as sharing
revival experiences with other churches across this country.
In resigning, it is evident that Pastor Kilpatrick felt the need
to pursue this calling on a full time basis. Those who work closely
with him fully recognize that his mantle has changed from that
of Pastor to that of a Spiritual Father. This church has been
blessed beyond measure over the 21 plus years that Pastor John
and Brenda Kilpatrick have served this congregation. A revival
legacy will remain forever with this church and Pastor John Kilpatrick
will always be linked to the great 1995 Father's Day outpouring
of God's presence.
The Happy Heretic wrote regarding manifestations at Brownsville:
"I visited Brownsville a couple of times in 1997 and was
appalled at the behavior I witness in the sanctuary. Yet at the
time, when I voiced concern about the grunting, "birthing",
barking, twitching, laughing, and what have you, I was told gruffly
that I was trying to "quench the spirit". Yet now,
a few years down the road, I find many people who now agree that
yes, all of those manifestations were just the flesh. Jimmy Page,
You are lying! You have exaggerated some report you probably
heard and you blew it up into this concocted story. Off all the
credible accounts I have heard of the revival there WAS NO BARKING.
I believe you were NOT EVEN there. If you were, show some proof?
You were trying to con us with your OTHER personality and it
did not work. There was maybe one incident of someone who barked
in Toronto and it was stopped by the leadership. This same Baloney
is passed around the internet by heresy hunters for several years
and it has LOST ALL it's credibility. Jimmy you were NOT EVEN
THERE!!!! You must get some counseling for your pathological
lying.........
Oct 25, 2003 Post subject: Brownsville Pastor Resigns
I would suggest that are some Brownsville boosters who aren't
exactly telling the entire story when they protest so vigorously
about purity of the Brownsville revival and so strenously deny
that there was any "barking" going on.
There may not have been any barking, but there were sure a
lot of other strange manifestations. And these are documented
by videotape -- videotape distributed by the church itself.
1. To start with, how about the service in which Steve Hill
had some of those ushers you talk about hoisting some people
manifesting up a storm down in front of the church -- up on their
shoulders (the usher's shoulders) and carry them up around the
balcony to try to get sinners to repent. Remember -- this is
on a videotape distributed by Brownsville A/G!!
2. Or how about bringing up a nice black young man from Alabama
up to the front of the church and have him demonstrate his own
particular form of manifestations up on the platform. It looked
like somewhat with hemiplegia trying to do the funky chicken
dance. Again, this was recorded on video which was produced,
promoted and distributed by Brownsville A/G.
3. Of course, there was the pastor's wife from the midwest
who the Holy Ghost smote and caused significant memory loss --
to the point of not even knowing she lived. Kilpatrick thought
it was great, and the congregation rejoiced in her confusion.
Again, this was documented on a video produced, publicized, and
distributed by Brownsville A/G.
4. You didn't mention the young woman whose head shook violently
-- under the direction of the Holy Ghost himself, of course --
whenever she was singing up in the choir. The Church was so proud
of that manifestation that they put it on national TV -- was
it ABC's "20/20"?
Incidently, what ever happen to that gal? Is she still shaking
her head violently in every service?
5. You didn't bother to mention the "birthing experience"
phenomena at Brownsville. Brownsville A/G was so proud of that
particular manifestation that the Pastor's wife did a special
teaching on it, didn't she?
6. You also failed to mention another great Brownsville A/G
doctrine; manifestations were intercessions. You want to expand
on Steve Hill's teaching on that?
===
You Brownsville boosters admit that maybe some of the weird
manifestations that went on were not of the Lord.
But which of the manifestations were? Were all the people
strewn all over the floor after getting spirit slain -- was
that "of the Lord"?
Oh, one final thing. How come Brownsville A/G doesn't seem
to want to sell any of those interesting manifestation tapes
anymore? Why can't you get the "Honey where are we from"
video anymore? If all the things in that tape that seemed to
be such bizarre nonsense to many people was truly a mighty outpouring
of the Holy Spirit, WHY DID THE CHURCH STOP DISTRIBUTING THE
TAPE??
If this stuff was really the Holy Spirit in action, why are
you backing off from the manifestations?

Rev. Peter Youngren also stepped down last week from his church
in St. Catherines Canada. Supposedly it is only temporary. He
also said it was for the best of his church. Some of his key
staff members resigned in the summer. It makes you wonder what
is happening in the North American Church?
M. Wayne Benson of First Assembly of God/Grand Rapids, MI
attended the Brownsville revival and claimed to have brought
the revival back to his church in Grand Rapids.
Shortly after the revival in Grand Rapids ended, Benson resigned
from the church that he has pastored for 25 years and claimed
that the Lord had told him that he was to minister to other ministers.
Benson stared Paraclete Ministries - a ministry to pastors -
but the ministry soon fizzled.
Benson is now president of Central Bible College in Springfield.
