Dear Rita,
I came across one of the pages of your website
(http://www.cephas-library.com/seventh_day_adventists/7th_day_adventism_freemasonry.html)
and started reading through it out of curiosity. You had a quote
from Messenger of the Lord: The Prophetic Ministry of Ellen G.
White by Herbert E. Douglass which would lead one to believe
that Joseph Bates was a Freemason. That quote is as follows:
"... s Bible study. Both she and Joseph Bates capitulated
wholeheartedly. Bible study, confirmed ... a committed Christian
and a Freemason. Then she made another" ... http://www.whiteestate.org/books/mol/Chapt15.html
So, I linked to that site and read what was really written and
it was totally different than what you "quoted." In
fact you quoted in one paragraph something that was written in
TWO paragraphs. The "quotes" you made were so out of
context with the original passages. You lead the reader to think
Ellen White was talking about Joseph Bates as being a Freemason
in this passage when in fact it was N. D. Faulkhead who was a
Freemason. No where at http://www.whiteestate.org/books/mol/Chapt15.html
does it link Joseph Bates with the Freemasons.
You can see the original quote below. It is this type of sloppy
misquotes that give legitimate websites a bad name. Freedom of
speech is one thing, but perpetuating a lie is entirely something
else.
"A few days later, November 20, Mrs. White had a vision
that dealt with many matters, including validation of Andrewss
Bible study. Both she and Joseph Bates capitulated wholeheartedly.
Bible study, confirmed by vision, continued as the general rule
in the development of Adventist theology."
"Ellen White went on about how impossible it is to be a
committed Christian and a Freemason. "Then she made another
secret sign, which she said 'my attending angel made to me.'
Faulkhead knew that this particular sign was known only to the
highest order of Masons, and said later: 'This convinced me that
her testimony was from God. . . . Immediately the statement that
I had made to Brother Stockton, that it would have to be mighty
strong before I could believe that she had a message for me from
the Lord, flashed through my mind.'"

Dear Karen,
- "... It is interesting that there is a Masonic Obelisque
on Ellen's gravesite, same as Joseph Smith, Jr.s who invented
Mormonism. If that was a mistake it seems to me the family of
Ellen White would have removed it by now. Pictures speak louder
than words. We received photographs from another researcher who
found the gravesite.
In any event the Seventh Day Adventist organization is a fine
social club but they do not teach what the Bible teaches. I have
talked to them in person and was shocked as to the different
teachings they teach their congregation.
Sincerely,
Rita at Cephas
