I have done everything within my power and I need help to resolve this injustice. My name is
Michael a 20-year retired veteran of the United States Army served from 1973 to 1993. My wife
Ariana and I have been married 29 years; she is my heartbeat and my best friend I love her as
I love life. We believe in God and Country and we are not activists or complainers I believe
we owe the world something and the world owes us nothing. We are old fashion in our thinking
and values. Albert Schweitzer is our roll model. In our hearts we believe in America,
reverence for all life.

This is our story from 1988 through 1993 at my last duty station my wife, son and I
experienced many health problems; at that time, we did not know why. Serious environmental
health issues/problems within the family housing units on a military installation. She tried
with no success with Housing, Housing Engineers, and other senior authorities on the
installation to get the problems fixed. I do not know whether money was an issue in getting
the environmental issues resolved. Nevertheless, if it was, it should not have been when
fellow human beings health and lives were at risk. Alternatively, was ignored swept under the
carpet she was not getting any support within. She was forced to seek outside help. During
the five years of the civil suite, many civilian and military officials were highly upset and
angry to the point of secret harassment. She was making waves so to speak, by initiating the
law suite, the officials with the responsibility should have fixed the problems did not.

During the same period, other families were complaining of health problems. Three other
families were plaintiffs in the lawsuit. Many others in family housing were effected; mothers
infants, children, and men over a period of time. Suffered illnesses, miscarriages, brain
damage, carbon monoxide, mercury and lead poisoning even deaths. Of coarse the deaths were
not linked to the environmental problems. Families suffering due to negligence, improper
storage of petroleum products, misuse of pesticides, use of stockpiled paint with mercury, and
fungicides being used as interior paint. Toxic poisoned water used for human consumption,
polluted by run off due to improper use and storage of pesticides and petroleum-contaminated
ground are just a few of the negligent environmental problems.

Improper installation of HVAC systems, cooking stoves and hot water heaters in the family quarters. From 1988 through 1993, our attorneys and investigators said that we had a legitimate and excellent case of neglect on the installation all “documented”. In January 1994, the Civil Action Suite # 3:93CV501 was dismissed without prejudice. Nothing was accomplished or fixed after 5 years of investigation, tests, research and hard work on the part of my wife and the attorneys. Five years my wife suffered from what she was trying to accomplish. By doing what was right. While others
looked away from their fellow Americans who were in the same boat that we were in.

They did not want to make waves; (To Go Along is To Get Along). However, for those that did put their hearts and souls on the line. Tried to do the right thing the TRUE AMERICAN hero’s who make up and support America and defend it, are labeled whistle blowers for having the same
attributes of bravery that our country gives medals to. Instead we were labeled and harassed
for standing up, and confronting a problem, faced it and dealt with it. Nine years later when
our lives should be normal and happy instead we live in mistrust and a nightmare of the people
in a country that we were proud of. The Army that claims, “We Take Care Of OUR Own,” Family
Quality. I believe that if we as a part of an organization are held responsible for our
actions so should the organization be responsible for theirs.

The justice system and our leaders failed the present and future families on that instillation. The only accountability that can be achieved is for the military and civilian publics to know and hear our story to know who are harassers are. Awareness is half the battle to strengthening our Constitutional
rights. No justice or accountability for the criminal negligence what so ever on the part of
our government (military installation). For various reasons, our justice system let us down!
The purpose for my asking for help and support is if my wife and I are ever going to get any
peace. Back to a normal life, from the nightmare, and the harassment the physical duress, the
stress and all that she suffered for stepping forward.

We did not deserve to lose everything our life’s work of building a home. In addition, the health problems due to exposure of hazardous toxins and chemicals. While living in government housing to include the harassment that came during and after we moved off the installation our personal life and our rights violated. . A chemical used on us contaminated our entire household belongings for years.
An apology and compensation of our personal losses. The need for the public, and our congressmen to know that this has happened to us.
