Cloud, Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061-0368, fbns@wayoflife.org) - Speaking at a Vatican press conference on Feb. 3, Don Fleetwood told reporters, "I don't see any problems in the Harry Potter series." Fleetwood is a member of the Pontifical Council for Culture and helped draft the new Vatican document on the New Age. Fleetwood said, "I don't think there's anyone in this room who grew up without fairies, magic and angels in their imaginary world. They aren't bad." He didn't give any Scripture as authority for his statement for the simple fact that the Bible condemns witches, magic, wizards, and occultism in general. The Harry Potter idea that there are good wizards and bad wizards (which is also taught in The Lord of the Rings) has no foundation in the Word of God. Bono claims to be a Christian, but it is a faith that is not based on the Bible. At Wheaton he said, "It's a remarkable thing, the idea that there's some sort of hierarchy to sin. It's something I can never figure out, the idea that sexual immorality is somehow much worse than, say, institutional greed. Somewhere in the back of the religious mind is this idea that we reap what we sow is missing the entire New Testament and the concept of grace completely" ("Backstage with Bono," Christianitytoday.com music interviews, Dec. 9, 2002). I don't know what New Testament Bono is referring to, but the one I have read for the last 29 years says, "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap" (Galatians 6:7) ----- WORLD COUNCIL OF CHURCHES, IMF AND WORLD BANK DISCUSS DEVELOPMENT :: Geneva (ENI). The World Council of Churches, noted in the past for its criticism of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, invited officials of the two institutions to its Geneva headquarters to start a debate on development strategy. "For both sides it was not self-evident to begin a dialogue," said the WCC general secretary, Konrad Raiser, in a message at the opening of a two-day seminar between representatives of the WCC, the IMF and the World Bank. The seminar was intended to be the first in a series to discuss fundamental matters concerning development and may lead to a meeting between leaders of the three organizations. The services are accompanied by the loudest Rock Music band he had ever experienced [David is a former musician]. The description of the modern facility far outdoes U.S. churches which is interesting. They maintain 300 cell groups. This explains why missionaries from the Charismatic Movement loved traveling to Singapore for new ideas on donations. The report is unbelievable. A KJV Bible was not available in the bookstore. :: Anne Graham Lotz preached at City Harvest Church as the main guest speaker at the South East Asia Congress of Evangelism (SEACOE) in 2002. In that forum, she preached to more than 1,500 pastors and church workers. We see, therefore, that Dr. Graham's daughter is walking in her ecumenical father's compromising footsteps. Billy Graham has testified that his daughter is "the best preacher in the family." It is too bad that neither of them respect God's command in 1 Timothy 2:12. Roman Catholic believers say it is the first time in Bangladesh that tears have been seen on a statue of the Virgin Mary. :: In a country which is overwhelmingly Muslim, it is unusual for a symbol of the Christian faith to attract much interest. But so many people are gathering outside the Chittagong church that police have been deployed to ensure law and order is maintained. Roman Catholics in Chittagong say that most people are queuing up to see the statue because they are inquisitive. A Seventh-day Adventist Church leader from Rwanda and his son have been sentenced to prison terms for their roles in the genocide that engulfed the East African country in 1994 and the church has apologized for their actions. The United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda sentenced Elizaphan Ntakirutimana, 78, former president of the church's South Rwanda Field (district), to 10 years of imprisonment for aiding and abetting in genocide. A prominent Norwegian Lutheran theologian and ecumenist has astonished his church by converting to Roman Catholicism, but he says his decision is not a protest against Lutheranism. Ola Tjorhom, a professor at the Norwegian School of Mission and Theology in Stavangar, became a member of the Roman Catholic Church with effect from 25 January, but he can continue as an academic, although with a revised teaching programme. Three other vehicles also had jugs of gasoline set under them but failed to ignite. ``I have no reason to doubt that it's an individual who committed the acts on behalf of the Earth Liberation Front,'' Rudge said. :: The FBI considers the Earth Liberation Front one of the nation's most prolific domestic terrorist organizations. It is thought to be responsible for the 1998 torching of a ski resort in Vail, Colo., an arson that caused $12 million in damage and is considered the most destructive act of eco-terrorism in U.S. history. :: ELF is loosely organized. Anyone who carries out an action under the group's guidelines and claims responsibility as part of the organization is considered a member. Over the past year, its name has been attached to a string of vandalism in Pennsylvania. :: Last month, the group's Web site said ELF members and cells from the Animal Liberation Front set a Nov. 26 fire at a mink farm in Erie. The fire destroyed a barn, but no animals or people were harmed. ELF's claims of responsibility typically come through its Web site, where managers say they serve only as a media conduit for the group. During the 1991 Persian Gulf War, plans were reportedly in place for mass burials and cremation of troops killed by chemical or biological agents. In earlier wars, fallen soldiers often were buried in temporary cemeteries near where they were killed. 307,000 soldiers were buried overseas, of those 47,000 were returned to the U.S. Soldiers often risk their lives to retrieve fallen comrades and bring them back to families for burial. Villains include an expanding executive branch, the collusion of both major parties with Wall Street interests, the increasing use of technical jargon in the halls of power, and a press that seems more focused on selling celebrities than examining policies. :: Greider wrote in 1992, and he anticipated how NAFTA, GATT, and the most favored trade status with China all passed and could be pushed through by a Republican Congress. Polls showed the vast majority of Americans opposed to all three pieces of legislation. A populist political critic, Greider suspects what is good for Wall Street might not be good for Main Street. :: "We're perilously close to not having a democracy," warms Greider, noting that while many elements are involved in disenfranchising the American public, none are buried secrets and all are familiar features. Campaign finance reform, of course, remains the preferred euphemism for legalized bribery used to win Congressional votes and manipulate regulatory decisions. Incumbents like the system (shock, shock) and reformers seem to lose in primaries (McCain, Bradley.) In fact they stopped vaccinating children for Small Pox because of this finding. Medical researchers showed an experiment where the vaccine shriveled up brain cells. The Congress has passed legislation to limit liability for pharmaceuticals for damages by vaccines.
