- ::: GREETINGS to all and the newcomers to this list. We'd
like to introduce ourselves. George and Rita Williams, who founded
this ministry, were Mormons (Temple Mormons part of the time)
for 20 years. We prayed to God in 1992 to allow us to do a ministry
speaking out against Scientology. Six months later God led us
to the truth: out of the cult of Mormonism. We did not know at
the time we were in a cult. No-one had witnessed to us in 20
years.
- The Holy Spirit brought us to information about all the cults
and the present development of the New World Order. We began
bringing our research to you. Because all the research was already
done, we decided to build a library within Cephas Ministry.
- We are fundamental Bible students and have left all worldly
organizations.
- The focus of these newsletters is to prove why we had
to leave the world system. We are called 'Watchmen on the
Wall' which God always had during the Old / New Testament Times.
- To understand what is happening, one has to know the Bible
to compare notes.
- The first section is about the church.
The news about churches is unedited unless indicated by Ednotes.
The church as we knew it, is undergoing disintegration. This
began on a fast track in the early nineteen sixties when the
Catholic Church produced liberal Vatican II to replace Vatican
I.
- The trend since then has been ecumenical which is truly what
the word 'Catholicism' means: a universal religion all
inclusive and multicultural. The Bible calls for a final church
which doesn't resemble what Jesus taught. The Word of God has
undergone many changes to fit the present mode. The Bible calls
for a falling away from the truth before Jesus
comes back for His Bride, the true believers called 'Ekklesia.'
Our newsletters prove this fact and prove that the Bible is true
from beginning to end.
- The second section is about globalism
where we bring your attention to the social, political and global
trend to prove that we are moving to closure of the times of
the Gentiles.
- The third section compliments End Time
teachings with what is happening in Israel. We describe and watch
for signs of the coming Tribulation to confirm that we are moving
into that space and time.
- Watchmen on the wall do not solicit memberships. We have
an email group that gets information when we upload new information
and a newsletter whenever it is possible time wise. We love the
Lord with all our hearts and minds and we love all people God
has created but especially those who love our Lord and Savior,

- LOVING WHAT JESUS?

The ecumenical movements of our day claim that it is enough that
a person "loves Jesus" and "believes the gospel."
All those who "love Jesus" should be able to fellowship
and work together. There is a serious problem with this philosophy.
It ignores the fact that there are many false Christs and false
gospels. Almost 2,000 years ago the Apostle Paul wrote about
this problem.
- Many are involved with the modern ecumenical movement. Instead
of testing everything carefully by the Word of God and exposing
false Christs and false gospels, they glory in their tolerance and "unity in diversity."
- A perfect example of this is the March for Jesus rallies
which are held annually and which seek to draw together all professing
Christians for a united "testimony for Jesus." The
national coordinator for March for Jesus in Canada, Marty Klein,
this year testified that Mormons were welcome to participate
in the March. Alan Sharpe of Ottawa wrote to Klein on May 2 via
e-mail and asked, "I am interested in the March for Jesus.
Can a devout Mormon who loves Jesus march in the march?"
Klein replied: "ALL are welcome to join us. However, we
make it clear that this is a march FOR Jesus. It is not a protest--we
are not promoting anything, but a person (Jesus) and we will
not allow Christians or otherwise to parade their various causes."
- Sharpe wrote again on May 11 and asked for confirmation about
Mormons participating in March for Jesus. He said: "If I
want to call myself a good Mormon then I must believe what the
elders teach, that Lucifer is Jesus' brother, and that Jesus
was a polygamist, and that His wives included Mary and Martha
(the sisters of Lazarus) and Mary Magdalene. This is all orthodox
Mormonism. ... Can a devout Mormon who believes these things
but loves Jesus and wants to praise him still march in the March
for Jesus?"
- Klein replied: "NO ONE KNOWS what is going on in one's
heart except God and that person. Jesus told us if we believe
on him and keep his commandments-- if we have a personal encounter
with Him and KNOW we are indwelt by his Spirit then we ARE his
children. IN ANY EVENT, I STILL MAINTAIN 1. ALL are welcome to
join us. However, we make it clear that this is a march FOR Jesus.
It is not a protest -- we are not promoting anything, but a person
(Jesus) and we will not allow Christians or otherwise to parade
their various causes." (emphasis in the original). This
statement demonstrates an incredible ignorance of the Word of
God. Consider some of the false Christs which are in the world
today:
- 1. The Wafer Jesus who is worshiped in the Roman Catholic
mass.
- 2. The Mormon Jesus who was a polygamist.
- 3. The Modernist Jesus who was not born of a virgin.
- 4. The Unitarian Jesus who was not God.
- 5. The Universalist Jesus who will not send anyone to Hell.
- 6. The Prosperity Jesus who was wealthy.
- 7. The Laughing Jesus who "slays" people with his
spirit and causes them to laugh uncontrollably and to stagger
like drunk men.
- 8. The Self-esteem Jesus who never called man a sinner and
who came merely to build up his self image.
- 9. The Revolutionary Jesus who was the founder of Liberation
Theology.
- 10. The Christian rock Jesus who was the first "punker
going against them all."
- "For many deceivers are entered into the world, who
confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a
deceiver and an antichrist. Look to yourselves, that we lose
not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a
full reward. WHOSOEVER TRANSGRESSETH, AND ABIDETH NOT IN THE
DOCTRINE OF CHRIST, HATH NOT GOD. He that abideth in the doctrine
of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son" (2 John
7-9).

you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto
you, and exhort YOU THAT YE SHOULD EARNESTLY CONTEND FOR THE

- VAN IMPE SUPPORTS THE POPE'S AGENDA
- Van Impe has accepted the false ecumenical concept of the
church and Christian unity. In the introduction to his 1984 book,
Sabotaging the World Church, Van Impe gives "hundreds of
positive declarations concerning the unity of the body of Christ,
the world church for whom Jesus suffered, bled, and died."
There is no such thing as a "world church" or an ecumenical
body of Christ composed of all professing Christians. In a November
21, 1993, telecast, Van Impe even used the favorite proof text
of ecumenism, John 17:21--"Jesus said in John 17:21 that
he wanted all of us to be one." We know, of course, that
the Lord Jesus had nothing like modern ecumenism in mind when
He prayed that prayer. Six times in that passage He mentioned
the Word and the Truth. "Sanctify them through thy truth:
thy word is truth" (Jn. 17:17). When Truth and the Word
of God is exalted as the basis for Christian fellowship, modern
ecumenism goes out the window!
- It is not really surprising, then, to see the Van Impe's
recommending the Pope of Rome. The ecumenical rivers are running
powerfully in the direction of that old harlot (Rev. 17), and
if a man does not aggressively paddle against the current, he
will quickly be swept down stream. Van Impe stopped fighting
the current some 15 years ago, and he is a long way down the
ecumenical river.
- The new Van Impe video is entitled Startling Revelations:
Pope John Paul II. The pope's photo adorns the cover, with advertising
blurbs announcing, "Authoritative, reliable, stunning ...
the most shocking report in 2000 years of Christianity!"
Full page ads appeared in such popular magazines as Charisma,
Moody Monthly, and Christianity Today.
- In this video Van Impe treats the Pope as a genuine Christian.
He would have us believe that the Roman Catholic Church is only
now beginning to go apostate, and John Paul II is the intrepid
defender of the faith who is attempting to stem the tide of error.
What a farce! The Roman Catholic Church has been apostate for
the duration of its notorious life. John Paul II is not a genuine
Christian. Though he names the name of Christ, he is actually
a worshiper of the false Catholic Mary. He has "Totally
yours" inscribed in Latin on his clerical robes, referring
to his consecration to Mary. He is a blasphemer who accepts worship
and titles of divinity. Jesus Christ said to "call no man
your Father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is
in heaven" (Matt. 23:9), yet the Pope is constantly called
father in direct rebellion to Christ's command. He is even called
"holy father," a clear biblical reference to deity.
In actuality, the Pope is not holy and he is not a father!
- Friends, if Romanism is not apostasy, there is no such thing
as apostasy. This unbelievable blindness on the part of Van Impe
is a warning to every preacher. It is not easy to "fight
the good fight" (2 Tim. 4:7), to "earnestly contend
for the faith" (Jude 3), to "rebuke them sharply"
(Titus 1:13), to mark and avoid those who teach error (Rom. 16:17).

- CATHOLIC CHURCH IN ENGLAND AND WALES GETS 148 COMPLAINTS
ABOUT ABUSE
- London (ENI). Nearly 150 complaints against Roman Catholic
priests and church workers in England and Wales were made last
year to a newly established office responsible for handling abuse
claims. The Catholic Office for the Protection of Children and
Vulnerable Adults (COPCA), presenting its first yearly report
on Monday, said all but 16 of the 148 complaints were about sexual
abuse. The complaints ranged from clear allegations of abuse
to claims of inappropriate behavior not seen as needing to be
referred to child protection agencies. Many of the complaints
were, however, about incidents in previous years. [Ecumenical

O'REILLY NOT SO RIGHT
- Popular talk show host Bill O'Reilly says labeling someone
as a "sinner" is contrary to American values. He has
grown a large audience in recent years, including many Christians
who like his conservative views on many key issues. But recently
he has attacked those who say homosexuality is a sin - as the
Bible does - and who would oppose such things as giving homosexuals
the right to adopt children. He says the religious right has
lost influence because they often "base their opinion on

- HUGE CATHOLIC CATHEDRAL OPENS IN LA
- A new massive, 12-story Roman Catholic Cathedral opened in
Los Angeles Sept. 2 amid protests of its cost ($190 million)
and abuse scandals. California Catholics see
it as a common gathering spot for uniting people of all faiths.
The dedicatory four-hour Mass featured liturgical dance and a
6,019-pipe organ. The new cathedral has 25 - ton bronze doors

- NOT LEGAL TO USE FULL NAME ON PRAYER LISTS
- A new federal law restricts Australian churches from using
the full names of members on prayer lists without specific permission
from each person. Churches can't put the names of ill members
without their consent (2/6 Ala. Baptist). Clergy can't visit
patients in hospitals unless each patient signs a permission

- New 'right to privacy' laws in the U.S. are having the same
effect. A friend of mine tried to call a hospital to inquire
about her dying friend and could not get any information on the
severity of the problem. The caller herself is housebound and
cannot go to the hospital. She was very upset that she could

- RAVES: LATE-NIGHT 'CHRISTIAN DANCES'
- Held in warehouses and fields, all-night rave dance parties
have spawned a new generation of teens and college students chanting
a mantra of PLUR (Peace, Love, Unity, Respect). There are probably
more ravers today than hippies in the '60s. Youth and leaders
describe the rave dance music this way (2/03 Charisma): "It's
worship to them - they just don't know who or what they are worshiping."
"A rave is like the devil's version of church, and ecstasy
[rave drug] is the devil's version of the Holy Spirit."
Some call it a "whole new way to worship ['getting high
on'] God," and say, "It's amazing how the music can
be so loud and yet I can hear God so clearly." A rave DJ
says: "There is something about the repetitiveness and energy
of the electronic dance music that causes people to drop barriers

- UNITED.METHODIST BISHOP ACCUSED OF HERESY
- Bishop Joseph Sprague of Chicago has been told to renounce
his views or resign his office for his views in rejecting traditional
doctrines like the virgin birth of Jesus, His bodily resurrection
and His role in salvation. Sprague, a prominent liberal and social
activist, has come under fire for a speech he gave at Iliff

THE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH-WHERE IS IT GOING?
- Pastor John Griffin of the Cresson Heights United Methodist
Church has decided to stage performances of Broadway musical
numbers in his church to remedy his attendance problem. "I
had a dying church and we had to do something to bring people
in," explains the East Hollywood, California, pastor. "The
music people love, to my mind, is sacred," said Griffin.
The United Methodist bishop who oversees Crescent Heights has
not condemned the services, offering instead the suggestion that
the church be sure to include a number from a famous gay musical.

DENIAL OF MATTH 1:23 and MATTH 2:2 and ACTS 4:12 EQUALS ETERNITY
IN HELL
- "The myth of the virgin birth was not intended as historical
fact" has been acquitted of heresy charges by a panel of
other UMC bishops. Bishop Joseph Sprague also has said, "Jesus
was not born the Christ, rather . . . he became the Christ,"
and has denied that Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation.
The panel of bishops which acquitted Sprague actually rebuked
the 28 clergy and laymen who filed charges against him: "It
is the humble, but considered, opinion of the supervisory response
team that the real threat may well be our arrogance and parochial
attitudes," the bishops said. "Let us cast out our
penchant to power and control." [Washington

- HATING THE HATE CRIMES BILL
- A federal hate crimes bill making its way through the Canadian
Parliament could signal what's in store for American Christians
should similar efforts succeed in the U.S. An open homosexual
and member of the Canadian Parliament is pushing to have sexual
orientation added as a protected category in Canada's genocide
and hate crimes legislation. Pro-family groups in that country
are raising the alarm that it could well lead to outlawing
any criticism of homosexuality. WorldNetDaily says there
have already been incidents at the provincial level in Canada
where people who have done just that paid a high price. For example,
a Saskatchewan man recently was fined $5,000 for buying a newspaper
ad that quoted verses from the Bible condemning homosexual behavior.
In addition, two years ago in Ontario, a human rights commission
leveled a $5,000 fine against a Christian businessman who refused
to print letterhead for a pro-homosexual group. In a current
case in British Columbia, a teacher is facing the loss of his
job for making statements critical of homosexuality -- even though
he made his comments outside the classroom. [Source:

- SNIPER IS A MUSLIM
- Best-selling author and columnist Ann Coulter says the mainstream
media is covering up the fact that Beltway sniper suspect John
Muhammad is a Muslim. He converted 17 years ago and changed his
name. He also belonged to Louis Farrakhan's Nation of Islam and
cheered the September 11 terrorist attacks on America [November 7, 2003, Agape Press].

RICK WARREN'S PURPOSE - DRIVEN CHURCH
- Christianity Today, November 18, 2003 has a 7-page article
on Rick Warren's Saddleback Community Church (Calif.) - a seeker-sensitive,
purpose-driven mega-church. Thousands of pastors flock to his
annual Purpose-Driven conferences. Last May's conference drew
3,800 pastors, and this remark from a Saddleback executive pastor:
"We're not talking about doctrine. We're talking about
how to do church in a way that meets people where their needs
are." (7/02 CC) Saddleback has close ties with the Southern
Baptist Convention but keeps this affiliation virtually invisible.
Warren has dropped much of Southern Baptist culture-altar calls,
Broadman hymnal, Sunday school. Warren was a listed speaker at
the recent SBC meeting, and for liberal Robert H. Schuller a

McCARTNEY TO RESIGN PROMISE KEEPERS
- Former University of Colorado football coach, Bill McCartney,
will resign as head of Promise Keepers. Per Associated Press,
he plans to step down, effective October 1, to spend more time
with his family. He has been on board-approved leave since March
caring for his wife who suffers from a severe respiratory illness.
McCartney informed the PK board of his decision last week, telling
members that during his leave he had sensed his leadership of
the organization was coming to an end and that God had assigned
him to the role of husband and grandfather. But McCartney said
PK's ministry is needed now more than ever, and he is "confident
that the Lord will direct and empower the ministry to move forward."
The PK board has named a committee to select McCartney's
successor. He is said to have enabled millions of men to find
their identity in Christ and become better husbands, fathers,
and church and community leaders. The ecumenical
PK will continue to solicit its founder's "advice, counsel

WCC LEADER CALLS FUNDAMENTALISM 'GREATEST ENEMY OF RELIGION'
- Catholics Aram I was moderator of the recent World Council
of Churches' Central Committee meeting in Geneva. It is the WCC's
main governing body. Aram is concerned that interreligious dialogue
is not given a high enough priority in the WCC's ecumenical witness.
He said the co-existence of religions is becoming shaky, and
said fundamentalism is "the greatest enemy of religion and
the most dangerous force of our times." [8/26 PCUSA NEWS]
He added: "Overcoming fundamentalism
is an urgent and top priority for all religions."
As the ecumenical drive for unity intensifies,
more pressure and persecution will come to nonconformist fundamentalists
who stand for
- God's truth. It would perhaps be more accurate to say
"religion (salvation by works) is the greatest enemy of

- ISLAMIC JESUS VS. CHRISTIAN JESUS
- The Christian Jesus is the virgin-born Son of God, the eternal
God, the Creator, co-equal and co-eternal with the Father and
Holy Spirit. He died for our sins, rose physically from the dead,
and is coming back physically and visibly one day. The Islamic
Jesus is said to be one of God's prophets but inferior to Muhammad
who brought Allah's final revelations to man. The Quran denies
the Trinity and that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and any
Muslim who believes in the deity of Jesus has committed "the
one unforgivable sin" and it will send that person to hell.
Muslims do believe that Jesus is the Messiah, virgin-born and
sinless (9/4 Ala. Baptist). [Islam is not the peaceful religion
it claims to be. We don't hear modern-day Muslims condemn the
atrocities and murders of Christians. By not condemning it, they

- SOME FACTS ABOUT GAYS
Of gays questioned in one study, 43% admitted to 500 or more
partners in a lifetime, 28% admitted to 1000 or more in a lifetime,
and of these people, 79% said that half of those partners were
total strangers.
50% of suicides can be attributed to gays. [Source: Kaifetz,

It takes approximately $300,000 to take care of each AIDS victim,
so thanks to the promiscuous lifestyle of gays, medical insurance
rates have been skyrocketing for all of us. [Ibid]
Part of the gay agenda is to turn people from Christianity: "The
teaching that only male-female sexual activity within the bounds
and constraints of marriage is the only acceptable form should
be reason enough for any homosexual to denounce the Christian
religion" [Advocate,1985].
Current research shows that the true percentage of gays is in
the 1-2% range [Morton-Hunt Study for Playboy]
59.6% of gays are college graduates. 18.0% of the general population
are college graduates [Statistical Abstract of the U.S., 1990].
Too bad they aren't smart enough to listen to God. "Professing
themselves to be wise, they became fools" (Romans 1:22).
49.0% of gays hold professional/managerial positions. 15.9% of
the general population hold such positions [Statistical Abstract
of the U.S., 1990] Where's the job discrimination?

DANGERS OF NEW EVANGELICALISM-ACCC
- Exec. Secretary Dr. Ralph Colas has been over the globe this
year (Geneva, Switzerland, Brazil, Singapore, and major USA)
attending with press credentials and reporting on significant
New Evangelical and liberal events. Reports on the National Religious
Broadcasters and the National Association of Evangelicals conferences
are now ready for mailing. Leaders of these ecumenical organizations
have long been at the forefront of the New Evangelical movement.
- Some excerpts from Dr. Colas' cover letter: New Evangelicalism
attempts to make evangelical truth more "relevant"
and acceptable to a larger segment of society. While many New
Evangelicals will not warmly embrace liberalism, they desire
more interaction and dialogue with liberal scholars and leaders.
This report gives a classic example of this. The NAE has invited
Dr. Robert Schuller, a blatant apostate and universalist, to
speak at its 2004 convention.
- NAE's new president, Dr. Ted Haggard, said its next convention
deals with the mega church and Schuller's Crystal Cathedral is such
a church. Evidently, New Evangelical leaders overlook the fact
that the God of the Fundamentalist is one God while the
god of the modernist is another. New Evangelicalism is dangerous
because it seeks to neutralize and then compromise the true Gospel
with liberalism.
- The NRB and NAE have accepted into membership the Worldwide
Church of God. Though it now claims to be an orthodox remnant
of the old Armstrong cult, its doctrinal statement contradicts
the claim. The NRB this year even permitted the Roman Catholic
Church and Greek Orthodox Church to lease display space to share
their non-Biblical propaganda. New Evangelicalism is a subtle
system and is expanding its influence. Its "scholarly"
promoters claim to be loyal to Scriptures and Bible-believing
separatists can agree with many doctrines they claim to believe,
but there are vital differences! [Write

ISLAMIC TERRORISTS SAY KILLING 'INFIDELS' IS ONLY WAY TO HEAVEN
- Islamic terrorists who die as martyrs while waging jihad
against the "enemies of God," will enter paradise instantly,
their sins washed away (World, 2/22). They believe the only sure
way to heaven is to "kill the infidels" (non-Muslims,

ago promised to build a World Healing Center near Dallas. He
requested funds for it but now says the decision to delay the

collects about $60 million per year in donations. He is said
to have built his theology around a theory that sending money
to him will bring even greater riches from God. Critics say the
healing center project was a fund-raising gimmick and "one
of many false promises he has made to finance a globe-trotting
ministry and lavish lifestyle." They say he leases a personal
jet and luxury cars, and is seen on television laden with gold rings, watches and bracelets.

- WORLD COUNCIL OF CHURCHES CONDEMNS "PROSELYTISM."
- Wayoflife.org - October 31, 2003 Representatives of liberal
and apostate denominations from Eastern
Europe meeting in Poland from Oct. 9-16, 2003 condemned "proselytism"
and called for greater unity. The meeting was organized by the
World Council of Churches and the Conference of European Churches.
One of the organizers was Jesuit priest Zbigniew Kubacki. There
were representatives from many denominations, including Anglican,
Baptist (shame on them!), Lutheran, Orthodox, Reformed, and Roman
Catholic.
- They claim that they are opposed only to "unethical
proselytizing," but in reality they are opposed
to any attempt to convert someone who is already a member of
a church, regardless of how false. Most of
these denominations teach that a person becomes a Christian through
"sacraments" such as baptism and confirmation. When
someone preaches the true Gospel and urges these unregenerate
"Christians" to be born again in a Scriptural manner,
the ecumenical church leaders complain about "proselytizing."
The apostle Paul did not accept the Galatian
judaizers as true Christians because they held to a false gospel
(Gal. 1:6-9), and we must not
accept those who hold to false gospels today.

- RECLAIMING AMERICA CONFERENCE.

the two-day "Reclaiming America for Christ Conference"
on October 24-25. 03 at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort
Lauderdale, Florida. Pastor D. James Kennedy is the founder of
the Center for Reclaiming America. Kennedy admits that America's
moral freefall can be traced to the steps of the nation's churches
(Agape Press, Oct. 24). But he promotes a "new evangelical"
type of ecumenism that is itself a large part of the problem.
Dr. Kennedy frequently appears on the same platform with Catholic
priests and other false teachers.
- He was one of the speakers for the April 1980 "Washington
for Jesus" rally. Fellow speakers included Catholic priests
John Bertolucci, John Randall, and Michael Scanlon. During the
premiere broadcast week for the launching in 1986 of the Rock
Christian Network, Kennedy appeared as a guest with Catholic
priest John Bertolucci, and radical Charismatics Paul Yonggi
Cho, Oral Roberts, and Demos Shakarian.
- In August 1988, Dr. Kennedy participated in the ecumenical
Congress '88, in Chicago. Then Archbishop of Chicago, Joseph
Cardinal Bernardin, brought the opening address of the Congress.
Dr. Kennedy participated with Pope John Paul II and others in
the publication of a series of books on evangelism co-sponsored
by Tyndale House and the Paulist National Catholic Evangelization
Association.
- Dr. Kennedy was one of the sixty ministers, including Roman
Catholic priests, who gathered at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington
D.C., in July 1986, for the covenant signing ceremony for the
Coalition on
- Revival (COR). COR signers made a commitment "to unity
and to a 'non-quarreling policy' over doctrinal points such as
eschatology, dispensationalism, Christian freedom, tongues, charismatic
activity and evangelism" (Christian News, Sept. 12, 1988).
In early May 1997, Kennedy featured Mother Teresa on his broadcast.
The announcer for Kennedy stated warmly, "who better to
speak on love than Mother Teresa."

Christian school is facing a lawsuit for expelling a student
who admits he's a homosexual. Eighteen-year-old Jeffrey Woodward
claims the Jupiter Christian School in West Palm Beach expelled
him three days after he admitted to a teacher that he was a homosexual.
- Woodward says the teacher pulled him out of Bible class and
asked him if he was homosexual. He says when he answered 'Yes,'
a school official called his other and told her that Woodward
could not attend an upcoming school retreat unless she and her
son met with the school to talk about his homosexuality. His
mother says the interdenominational school told them that Woodward
could get counseling for his problem, voluntarily withdraw from
the school, or be expelled. Now Woodward and his mother have
filed a 'breach of contract' claim against Jupiter Christian.
Even homosexual activists admit the school has done nothing illegal
because Florida discrimination laws do not apply to private schools."

closer links between the two denominations. Methodism has its

the covenant adopts a more gradualist approach than the previous
efforts. It commits the two denominations "as a priority,
to work to overcome the remaining obstacles to the organic unity

- SCHOOL RIOTS WORRY CHURCH LEADERS IN KENYA WHO SEE DRUGS
PLAY ROLE Nairobi (ENI). Sporadic unrest in Kenyan schools attributed
in part to soaring drug and alcohol abuse by young people is

who are calling for speedy action to deal with the situation.
School riots have escalated in the past month, climaxing in the
burning of Kinyui Boys High School in Machakos, eastern Kenya
on 26 October. Nine dormitories, laboratories and an administration
block were burnt down, in acts described by local leaders as
"satanic". "Something needs to be done quickly
to save the situation. We are aware some students in the schools
are using illicit drugs," the Rev. Peter Kinyanjui, deputy
general secretary of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa,

PASTOR ACCUSED OF SEXUAL ASSAULT
- HOUSTON (BP) - October 31, 2003 -The longtime pastor of a
prominent Houston church has been given a two-month paid leave
of absence from the pulpit following allegations he sexually
assaulted a 37-year-old man.
- The action to suspend Brentwood Baptist Church pastor Joe
Ratliff was taken Oct. 27 during a regularly scheduled business
meeting. Some 5,000 people attend the church every Sunday morning.
- During the next two months Ratliff will continue his administrative
duties while other staff members provide ministerial leadership,
according to a statement the church provided to Baptist Press.
He will return to the pulpit Dec. 31. 2003.
- "In making this decision, the church leadership turned
to God in prayer and referred to scripture," the statement
read. "We must move on. Dr. Ratliff has recommitted himself
to God and is working through this for the good of himself, his
wife, the congregation and the community. "We will not allow
our faith to be destroyed. We will ensure that the business of
Brentwood will continue as well as it has and continue to pray
for our church family."
- According to KHOU-TV in Houston, Ratliff allegedly forced
the man, Arnold Blake, into a church office where he groped and
kissed him. Blake also claimed that Ratliff offered to pay for
sex, KPRC-TV in Houston reported. The man sued both Ratliff and
the church, and the two sides have since settled out of court.
"[W]e felt it necessary to bring this matter to an end by
settling out of court for the good of the church and the ministry,"
the church statement read.

TV stations in which two men, allegedly Ratliff and Blake, can

have been warned not to attend prayer meetings of the US-based
preacher Benny Hinn when he visits India early next year. Hinn's
meetings have been scheduled for 13, 14 and 15 February at the
Bandra-Kurla Complex. This worries the Catholic Church who fear
that their faithful, many of whom watch his television programs,
will flock to his meetings hoping to watch people healed from
sicknesses.
- Hinn, who claims to make contact with the dead, is a controversial
figure in the west where he has been criticized for misinterpreting
the Bible and prophesising the appearance of Jesus at his gatherings.
His claims of miraculous healing are also treated with skepticism.
Last month, Ivan Cardinal Dias, archbishop of Mumbai issued a
circular, called an official in church parlance, asking parish
priests to give a timely warning to their congregations not to
attend Hinn's programmes when he visits the city. Dias said that
Hinn, despite his popularity and TV shows, is not accepted even
by many of his own evangelist colleagues for his controversial
doctrines, his misquotations and misinterpretations of the Bible,
his false prophecies, his alleged visions of angels and contacts

- What Hubbard touts as a science of mind lacks one key element
that is expected of a science: empirical testing of claims. The
key elements of Hubbard's so-called science doesn't seem testable,
yet he repeatedly claims that he is asserting only scientific
facts and data from many experiments. It isn't even clear what
such "data" would look like. Most of his data is in
the form of anecdotes and speculations such as the one about
a patient who believes she was raped by her father at age nine.
"Large numbers of insane patients claim this," says
Hubbard, who goes on to claim that the patient was actually 'raped'
when she was "nine days beyond conception.... The pressure
and upset of coitus is very uncomfortable to the child and normally
can be expected to give the child an engram which will have as
its contents the sexual act and everything that was said"
(Hubbard, 144).
- Such speculation is appropriate in fiction, but not in science.

- A SAD HAPPENING IN MINNESOTA THIS TIME. WE'LL BE ADDING
A NEW STATE FLOWER TO 'SAVE OUR CHILDREN'
- 09/24/2003 - Earlier today, at 11:40am, in Cold Spring, Minnesota,
at Rocori High School, two students were shot in gym class. the
two students were taken to Saint Cloud Hospital, where, about
20 minutes ago, one of the shooting victims died. One was shot
in the torso, and the other was shot in the neck. The Gym teacher,
Mark Johnson, was able to convince the shooter to give up his
gun, and was taken to the administrative office to await being
taken into custody. The remainder of the gym class students were
physically uninjured. the shooter is a ninth grader at the school.
the school has about 830 students, and the remainder of the school
was under a "red Alert", which means they were under
"lockdown". The students were locked in their classrooms
for about 80 minutes, then were allowed to leave. The school
was under a red alert for 2 weeks, following an alleged threat

- DIZZYING DIVE TO RED INK POSES STARK CHOICES FOR WASHINGTON
- WASHINGTON, Sept. 13, 2003 - By David Firestone - When President
Bush informed the nation last Sunday night that remaining in
Iraq next year will cost another $87 billion, many of those who
will actually pay that bill were unable to watch. They had already
been put to bed by their parents.
- Administration officials acknowledged the next day that every dollar of that cost will be borrowed,
a loan that economists say will be repaid by the next generation
of taxpayers and the generation after that. The $166 billion
cost of the work so far in Iraq and Afghanistan, which has stunned
many in Washington, will be added to what was already the largest
budget deficit the nation has ever known...
- It seemed to be the brink of a golden era for Washington,
"an unprecedented moment in history," in the words
of the administration's first budget plan, issued a month after
Mr. Bush was inaugurated. He vowed that almost all the national
debt would be paid off and that retirement and health plans would
be strengthened for the future by setting aside trillions
in savings. Balanced budgets, so long in arriving, seemed to
promise an end to wasteful interest payments and years of arguments
pitting military spending against domestic programs.
- And then, within months, the glittering promises crumbled.
The budget was upended by what economists now say were three
independent forces gathering in power at once: a steep economic
decline, a political consensus to slash taxes and the effects
of the 2001 terrorist attacks. The surplus disappeared, replaced
the next year with a budget deficit that has since grown to a
record size. The $5.6 trillion surplus once predicted for
the 10 years ending in 2011 is now a $2.3 trillion cumulative
deficit under the best-case prediction issued by the Congressional
Budget Office two weeks ago.
- The $8 trillion difference between those numbers has
little precedent in American history. The long-term budget
forecast has declined as much in the last two years as the total
revenue collected by the United States government from 1789 to
1983...
- The pressure is likely to get worse, particularly if the
occupation of Iraq continues to consume
$4 billion a month. Joshua Bolten,
the White House budget director, said in a recent interview that
this coming year's 4 percent increase in discretionary spending
might well be reduced below 4 percent in 2005, which would be
far below the average recent increase for programs that are not
entitlements. Congressional Republicans deny the Democratic charge
that the deficit was deliberately created to shrink government,
but nonetheless acknowledge that it will be a useful tool to
achieve that goal.

embarks on a new push to revive moribund peace efforts. Instead,
Mr. Bush has unwisely chosen to encourage the most hawkish impulses
of Israel's prime minister, Ariel Sharon, reassuring him in private
on Sunday and again in public yesterday that Israel "must
not feel constrained" in defending itself. Neither American
nor Israeli interests are well served by such provocative advice.
- By bombing what it says was a Palestinian terrorist training
camp in Syria, Israel hopes to pressure Damascus to crack down
on Palestinian terrorists and to demand that the Palestinian
Authority do the same. Yet by drawing additional countries directly
into its intractable conflict with the Palestinians, Israel makes
a political solution for the core conflict that much more difficult.
It also threatens to make America's role in the Middle East,
including in postwar Iraq, even more problematic than it already
is.

policy, promoting the invasion of Iraq as a step toward resolving
the Israeli-Palestinian crisis. With his political future in

is tolerant of other religions. Though most are not fundamentalist,
many pesantren are characterized by authoritarian control and
limited exposure to outside ideas.

are nationally recognized and draw students from all over the

- LONDON (Reuters) - September 2, 2003 - A giant asteroid is
heading for Earth and could hit in 2014, U.S. astronomers have
warned British space monitors. But for those fearing Armageddon,
don't be alarmed -- the chances of a catastrophic collision are
just one in 909,000. Asteroid "2003 QQ47" will be closely
monitored over the next two months. Its potential strike date
is March 21, 2014, but astronomers say that any risk of impact
is likely to decrease as further data is gathered. On impact,
it could have the effect of 20 million Hiroshima atomic bombs,
a spokesman for the government's Near Earth Object Information
Centre told BBC radio. The Centre issued the warning about the
asteroid after the giant rock was first observed in New Mexico
by the Lincoln Near Earth Asteroid Research Programme.

- IRAQ PLAN GETS UNANIMOUS OK
- CBSNEWS - AP Oct. 16, 2003 - After more than a month of negotiations,
the United States claimed diplomatic victory Thursday as the
Security Council gave unanimous support to an American plan for
rebuilding Iraq.
- The U.S. won the support of war opponents France, Germany,
Russia and Syria after circulating five drafts of the proposal.
All four countries made their support known only hours before
the vote Thursday morning.
- The U.S. effort was aimed at getting more international funding
and troops to ease the American burden in Iraq. But German and
French officials said their support for the resolution did not
mean such help would be forthcoming.
- The resolution gives U.N. authority to a multinational, U.S.-
led force in Iraq. The United States retains full control over
the country. Iraq's interim Governing Council has until Dec.
15 to draft a timetable for writing a new constitution and holding
elections.
- To get more troops and funds into Iraq, the resolution would
authorize a multinational force under U.S. command and call for
troop contributions as well as "substantial pledges"
from the 191 U.N. member states at a donors conference in Madrid,
Spain, on Oct. 23-24.

on the use of sonar in the oceans, along comes new evidence that
the acoustic signals may be causing severe damage to sensitive
whales. A report by British and Spanish scientists suggests that
midfrequency sonar from an international naval exercise last
year may have caused a disorder similar to decompression sickness,
or the bends, in 14 whales that died after beaching themselves
in the Canary Islands.
- Necropsies performed on 10 of the whales found that all had
developed gas bubbles in their blood vessels and vital organs,
which may have caused severe internal damage or disorientation.
- The researchers speculate that the bubbles may have been
caused by a physical interaction between the acoustic signals
and gas nuclei in whale tissues or that a panicky reaction may
have made the whales rise too quickly from deep waters, bringing
on an illness similar to the bends, which afflicts human divers
who ascend too quickly.
- Such findings make it distressing that the House version
of a Defense Department authorization bill, now in conference
with the Senate, would grant a broad "national defense"
exemption to the military under the Marine Mammal Protection

- Several negotiators said on Monday that they were seriously
considering a co-payment of $40 to $45 for each 60-day period
in which a beneficiary receives home care. That is about 1.5
percent of the average cost of such care. For each 60 day period,
Medicare typically pays $2,700 to $3,000.

maker of a video game that two teens claim inspired them to shoot

Grand Theft Auto, a video game that allows players to "fire"
on people and cars in realistic, shoot-'em-up fashion, is a cash

the video game industry. For the middle and high school students
who play the game for hours on end, it's a means of escaping
the monotony of teenage life.
But for two stepbrothers, 16-year-old William and 14-year-old
Joshua Buckner, that escape turned deadly this summer. They told
police they were emulating Grand Theft Auto on the night of June
25 when they took shotguns to Interstate 40, near their Newport,

What if an FBI agent had known that two acquaintances of his
San Diego informant had been identified as terrorists and would
turn out to be among the hijackers? What if agencies had shared
more information? What if intelligence agencies had more spies
in Afghanistan? What if fighting Osama bin Laden had been a higher
priority?
The final report Thursday of the House and Senate intelligence
committees' inquiry into the attacks identifies countless blunders,
oversights and miscalculations that prevented authorities from

Saudi Arabia have funneled hundreds of millions of dollars to
charitable groups and other organizations that may have helped
finance the September 2001 attacks, a still-classified section
of a Congressional report on the hijackings says, according to
people who have read it.
- Washington, July 24, 2003 — The report today on intelligence
failures may force the Bush administration to confront a vexing
question that the White House thought it put to rest months ago:
how best to prevent another terrorist attack.
- The findings, providing an even more damning indictment of
the intelligence community than many had predicted, are already
prompting fresh debate over whether the federal government should
create a national intelligence czar or even strip the F.B.I.
of its domestic intelligence duties in favor of a wholly new
agency...
- Robert S. Mueller III, the F.B.I. director, said his agency
had already moved to carry out 10 of the committee's 19 recommendations,
including improved terrorism analysis and better training of
agents. But other recommendations, like the idea of a cabinet-level
official to oversee intelligence, could meet resistance from
the Bush administration.
- An even more controversial idea is the MI-5 proposal to create
a new domestic intelligence agency, which the administration
