Burnt Skin Brought Back to Life

Under any other circumstances, 17-year-old Sarah Lambourne would have stayed at home on the night of her debutante ball in September this year. Less than a year earlier her face suffered terrible burns after cooking oil in her family kitchen caught fire. But a revolutionary new bandage now available at Concord Hospital burns unit sped up the natural healing process, leaving Sarah's face with no physical sign of her ordeal. "It's been a miracle, you can't
tell at all," she said. "It saved my face."  Concord Burns Unit medical director Peter Maitz has been testing the new dressing - which has been cultured with living cells taken from the foreskins of circumcised babies. The story is archived at the Daily Telegraph for a fee.
